Our Top 5 Photo Shoot Locations
5. Castle & Key Distillery
If you know anything about Kentucky, then you know we are synonymous with three things: basketball, horses, and... bourbon! So of course, this list would not be complete without a distillery. Castle & Key is one of the most beautiful and unique locations for a photo shoot because of its recognizable architecture and cohesive, enchanting grounds. The original owner of the distillery prioritized imagery in both his bourbon bottles and the land on which his product was made; it is clear to this day that he succeeded in creating beauty. There are so many areas that make for the perfect compliment to a portrait session. Photography on site is by appointment only and must be booked with the "experience" team. Guests and photographers are required to sign an agreement and pay the appropriate fees.
4. Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill
Shaker Village boasts some expansive valley views paired with historic farmland and architecture. It is really quite a fun combination of classic KY and extraordinary preservation. The landmark destination has a great and friendly staff which are always happy to answer questions that arise during your planning process!
3. The Backroads of Kentucky
We find so much joy in exploring the backroads of Kentucky! There is something so exciting about starting off in one direction... without a destination in mind! We love to discover different abandoned roads with forgotten barns and fences lining the path. Not only is stopping on the side of the road and posing for pictures super special.. but the act of finding a destination together is pure magic. We have so many memories made from simple days of exploration and shared snacks; the best part is that we have so many photos (of each other and our surroundings) to help us remember our time, the joy we shared, and the places we discovered. The thing we love most about this backdrop is how individual and personal you can make it... all while bonding together!
2. Downtown Lexington
There are plenty of urban backdrops to use for a successful photo shoot downtown! Our favorite part about the city center is how there is a unique blend of old and new. Within one session you can have both historic homes and ancient trees behind you... or street art and modern high-rises! We love the versatility of this location, the unique colors, and romantic balance of all the qualities that make Lexington so special!
1. Michler's Florist & Kentucky Native Café
Our absolute favorite location for any romantic photo shoot is the dreamy gardens of Michler's Florist... which is also the home of Kentucky Native Café. There is something so unique about the combination of wild vines, intriguing lines of potted plants, and the industrial quality displayed by the greenhouse. This spot is not super popular or conventional for photography... which is why we recommend going during "off" hours to avoid any crowds. There are so many cute and cosy corners to use as a romantic backdrop (no matter what season or weather)! We like to call before planning our session to make sure the staff will not be bothered by us roaming around for a good chunk of time... and we like to make sure to purchase something after we finish as a thank you to the local business!

No matter what location you select for a romantic photo shoot, as long as you both feel comfortable and enjoy your time together we think it counts as a success! From exploring the surrounding areas of Lexington... to the streets of downtown... there are so many divers backdrops which can display personality and beauty in your portraits.
